While Anisha’s main focus is encouraging farmers to grow enough food to feed their families, they understand that these farmers also must earn a living. To this end, they have created a Farmers’ Federation, whose membership consists of farmers active in Anisha’s programs. This federation operates as a collective to sell the organic crops grown by its members. Together, they can access larger markets and devote resources to marketing that would be otherwise unavailable to them as individuals. By putting farmers in charge of this federation, Anisha is empowering them to build and grow a vibrant local economy based on organic farming and to make an agricultural lifestyle once again viable.
